Scientific Diving I


Course Description

Entry-level course designed to teach students the fundamentals of scuba diving and underwater scientific research methods. At the end of the course, students will be eligible to earn open water certification and be prepared to participate in a scientific diver research program.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students will be required to do a research paper and presentation on an underwater research topic.

Course Objectives

The students will learn about diving equipment, skills, and safety; the science behind SCUBA; and underwater research methods. Upon completion of this course, the student will be eligible to participate in an open water certification trip to complete their open water scuba certification. In addition, the student will be qualified to participate in underwater research through a scientific diving program.
