Provides a foundation in taking a script through the transformative process from written word to visual image. An exploration of the working relationships between the director, director of photography, and production designer. Other topics include the various roles of the art department, production cycles, and camera work.

Course Objectives
By the conclusion of this course, the student will acquire the following competencies: 1. An understanding of the world of design and how it impacts the effectiveness of storytelling. 2. The ability to watch, analyze, and discuss design choices in a film or television show and describe how those choices contribute to the overall whole. 3. The ability to respond to a script through visual research and sketches, creating a unified design approach. 4. A practical understanding of budgeting and standard paperwork used in production.
