Course Description
Language development from infancy to adulthood. Examination of the steps, milestones, sequences, processes, and difficulties that people may go through in acquiring their native language (primarily English). Cultural, gender, socioeconomic, cognitive, and prelinguistic influences on language development will also be considered.

Course Objectives
Students will be able to: a. Describe language development with an appreciation for the major milestones in the development of speech perception, speech production, word learning, morphology, syntax, pragmatic, and social language skills. b. Describe some of the methods used to study language development c. Discuss basic child language data and major theories of language development d. Compare and contrast normal and disordered language development
