A survey of travel and tourism in a global context. Students
will become acquainted with the economic, socio-cultural,
demographic, and environmental impacts that tourism has on the
world community. Special emphasis will be placed on issues
faced by tourism developers in businesses and governments of
all sizes.

By the end of this course, students will be able to define tourism and be able to distinguish recreationists from tourists.
By the end of this course, students will be able to explain how tourism has evolved through time and what the future of tourism looks like worldwide.
By the end of this course, students will know the important role natural and cultural resources play in the competitiveness of tourism destinations.
By the end of this course, students will be able to explain the many different motivations for travel including the various push and pull factors that motivate people to travel.
By the end of this course, students will be able to evaluate the economic, socio-cultural and environmental impacts tourism has across the world and reflect on strategies on how to limit their impacts when traveling.
By the end of this course, students will understand the role of tourism as a vehicle for understanding different cultures and values of places.
By the end of this course, students will learn how to create a detailed, week-long travel itinerary to an international tourism destination, including a review of the country's history, level of tourism development, and visa information.
