Sustainability Education: Promising Practices


Course Description

Promising practices for educating students in grades pre-K-12 of the importance and complexities of global sustainability.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
In addition to the assignments for all students, graduate students will design a proposal for a Sustainable UGA grant. Course Objectives

Students will broaden their understanding of sustainability and sustainability practices by becoming familiar with practices that provide PreK-12 students with knowledge of: Human and natural communities Global interconnectivity Engagement in creating sustainable communities How one can make a difference

• What is sustainability and why does it matter to our children? • Sustainability in the natural world • Cultural contexts of sustainability • Sustainability farming and community gardening • Thinking beyond reducing, reusing, and recycling • Sustainability in our local communities and the importance of buying local • Sustainability and consumer culture
