Course Description

Research and design phase of the Institute for Leadership Advancement’s service-learning project component for Leonard Leadership Scholars. The curriculum will focus on how to scope and manage a change initiative within a non-profit or rural community. Topics will include qualitative research, relationship building, project management, and problem solving.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will work in teams to assist a community with a real-world problem by conducting research, collecting and evaluating data to identify an action plan for this service-learning project.
  • Students will engage with their teams and client toward a shared vision for the project and develop a plan that considers perspectives and feedback from all stakeholders.
  • Students will synthesize ideas and leverage individual strengths when experimenting with potential solutions for their SLP project.
  • Students will develop an awareness and knowledge of working with underserved communities including nonprofits and rural counties in Georgia and the importance of being a servant leader.
  • Students will communicate clearly and consistently with team members, faculty and their SLP client to ensure progress throughout the semester.
