Course Description
The design of better products and processes is a fundamental goal of all engineering. Fundamental concepts of optimization techniques that can be used for a variety of engineering components or systems. This course focuses on providing students with a methodology and set of skills to apply in improving engineering components, systems, and processes.

Course Objectives
After completion of the course, the students will be able to: • Learn the concept of optimum design and see how it can support the engineering development process of complex engineering systems or components • Learn how to quantify product design problems by selecting appropriate objective functions, design variables, parameters and constraints • Be able to use various optimization techniques for a problem at hand • Perform a critical evaluation of simulation and optimization results and any tradeoffs between risks and costs
