Course Objectives
• Students will learn major features of the ontological turn that enabled the new materialisms and new empiricisms • Students will learn major critiques of conventional descriptions of human being (Spinoza, Whitehead, Deleuze, etc.) • Students will learn the substantial feminist contribution to this new mode of inquiry, for example work by Karen Barad, Jane Bennett, Isabelle Stengers, Susan Hekman, Anne Marie Mol, Maggie MacLure, Hillevi-Lenz Taguchi, Elizabeth de Freitas, and others. • Students will learn the Deleuzo Guattarian flattened ontology and transcendental empiricism that informs much of this work • Students will learn how this new inquiry has been taken up and used by educators • Students will learn how to apply the new materialism/new empiricism to their own inquiry projects
