Course Description

This is a field planning and preparation seminar for integrative team research to be carried out the following semester. Principles of team science, logistical support, and group operationalization will be explored.

Course Objectives

After completing this course, students will be prepared to apply the theories and tools of integrative conservation to a real-world situation. They will have formulated a research question on which to focus during the following Principles of Integrative Conservation II course. Students will also have exposure to a range of methodologies which may be used to approach the chosen Principles of Integrative Conservation II research question, and they will have developed a deliberate strategic communication plan.


Topical Outline

I. Overview of research site, discussion of partner needs, research questions, and deliverables; II. Discussion of faculty and student disciplinary perspectives/expertise in regards to research site; III. Assessment of materials that will serve as a foundation for project; IV. Establishing four-month plan for successful implementation of the case study project, including explicit detailed planning of intellectual products, and partner deliverables; V. Final appraisal of project plan, including concrete dates for travel, meetings, presentations, etc.
