Students will speak spontaneously about oneself and others, maintaining simple and meaningful conversations in the target language about a variety of topics and situations in the past, present, and future contexts.
Students will use grammar and vocabulary to express opinions, present arguments, and narrate events accurately in the target language.
Students will collaborate with peers to develop group projects that explore topics of cultural or social relevance in Spanish-speaking communities.
Students will increase their comprehension of narration from the instructor, authentic materials (from the popular press, media, and literary sources), video components, and classmates.

Pronunciation: Rhythm, consonants, vowels, dipthongs, stress
and intonation.
Basic Tenses for communication: Present, imperfect, preterite,
future.
Regular verb conjugations: First, second, third.
High Frequency irregular verbs: Ser, estar, tener, hacer,
gustar, poder, querer, venir.
Vocabulary of useful items: personal possessions, food, family
members, clothing, shopping, holidays, and celebrations.
Pronouns: Subject, direct and indirect object, reflexive,
interrogative, and relative pronouns.
Moods: Indicative, subjunctive, imperative.
Vocabulary and structure of conversational topics: Numbers,
time, weather, calender, coursework.
Readings and culture: The Spanish-speaking world, the
university, Hispanic last names, family life, travel and
vacations, household goods, sports, hobbies, holidays,
accidents, health and safety.
