Student Learning Outcomes
The course aims to develop a student’s four skills (aural, oral, reading, and writing) at the ACTFL Intermediate High to Advanced Low level. The course also aims to develop a student’s Italian linguistic and intercultural communicative skills for the Italian business world. Students will gain a foundation in vocabulary and discourse related to different professional areas involving commerce and business.
Students will enhance their ability to communicate in Italian in both professional and social situations, and they will acquire an awareness of the social and cultural contexts in which commercial transactions take place. This includes the subtleties of formal conversation and polite behavior which make for a pleasant professional relationship in Italy.
Students will learn about the Italian-speaking professional environment, and will examine the geography, economy, demographics, and politics of Italy and their relation to commerce.
At the end of the course, the successful student will also have developed an awareness, appreciation, and knowledge of Italian business culture; and they will know how to navigate within that culture’s subtle nuances of interactive communication and behavior.
