Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to: • Utilize functional knowledge and critical thinking skills to synthesize comprehensive patient care plan • Identify the pathophysiology, risk factors, clinical presentation, and preventative interventions associated with disease states • Assess patients for necessary nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions • Integrate drug-related data for appropriate agent selection given a patient scenario (indications, mechanism of action, precautions/contraindications, adverse drug reactions/toxicity and associated management, drug interactions and associated management, dosing, patient counseling information) • Formulate evidence-based treatment plan recommendations based on patient-specific data and prior pharmacologic knowledge • Recommend and interpret monitoring parameters for safety and efficacy to modify regimens based on ongoing patient data and/or change in clinical status • Demonstrate effective clinical judgment regarding medicines and associated therapeutic plans • Realize the value of effective teamwork • Develop confidence in and enthusiasm for providing direct patient care
