Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to: • Appraise the tenets of social justice as they apply to program development, implementation, and evaluation. • Develop procedures and training materials to implement and evaluate effective health promotion interventions that take into account cultural competence. • Analyze the roles of history, power, privilege, and structural inequality in producing health disparities. • Value the role of professional ethics and practices related to equity and accountability in diverse community settings. • Explain why cultural competence alone cannot address health disparity. • Apply basic principles of ethical analysis (e.g., the Public Health Code of Ethics, human rights framework) to issues of public health practice and policy.
