Course Description
A study of the methods used to determine thickness and composition of the components of both flexible and rigid highway pavements. Classwork will also include paving materials, Mechanistic-Empirical (ME) pavement design concept, traffic stress and strain, and pavement management system. Standard techniques and computer software will be utilized in this class.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Additional and/or advanced problems will be assigned only to
graduate students both in homework and quizzes/examinations. A
design project is required of all graduate students.

Course Objectives
After completion of the course, students will be able to: - Discuss design factors considered in pavement design. - Analyze pavement responses (stresses and strains) to traffic loadings and environmental conditions. - Utilize standard techniques and computer software for the structural design of pavements.
