Course Description
Students will intern at a secondary school or university in Korea. They will teach conversational English in class or through extracurricular activities at a host school. Students will also learn spoken Korean by engaging in various activities with Korean students on and off campus.

Non-Traditional Format
Course includes a service-learning project during the semester that either employs skills or knowledge learned in the course or teaches new skills or knowledge related to course objectives. Students will be involved in the planning and implementation of the projects(s) and may spend time outside of the classroom. Students will be engaged in the service-learning component for approximately 50-75% of overall instructional time.

Course Objectives
Students will enhance their cross-cultural understanding and communication skills by working with students in a secondary school in Korea. They will also improve their spoken Korean by engaging in various extracurricular activities on and off campus of the host institution in Korea.
Topical Outline
1. Students will teach two sections of English class in the morning from Monday through Friday. 2. Students will participate in one or two hours of extracurricular activities in the afternoon. 3. Students will participate in group meetings related to class preparation and management, extracurricular activities, and weekend trips. 4. Students will attend weekly reflection and discussion sessions. 5. Students will keep a journal during the internship period and will submit at the end of the program. Additional Weekend Activities (voluntary basis): 1. Visits to local historic sites and museums 2. Visit to Seoul, the capital city of South Korea 3. Temple-stay in a nearby Buddhist monastery 4. Homestay with local Korean families 5. Participation in the “English Camp” for middle school students in remote rural areas which is organized by the local board of education in Korea
