History and application of design-based research principles. Iterative design of an innovative artifact appropriate for addressing educational problems, identifying relationships between the artifact’s design principles, and local theory based on empirical evidence.

Course Objectives
Participants will: 1. Review the literature on design-based research (DBR) 2. Identify the major principles associated with DBR 3. Identify a problem topic appropriate for DBR 4. Identify one or more theories that explain and could help address that problem 5. Design and revise a prototype intervention addressing that problem using DBR principles and procedures 6. Create a logic model indicating the relationships among theory, enactment of that theory, and theoretical outcomes anticipated from the intervention 7. Develop a proposal for a design-based research agenda
