Course Description

Deep analysis of new business models involving innovative digital technologies, hands-on exercises with new generations of technologies, and innovation projects where students apply technologies to business problems. Creative exploration, critical thinking, and intense collaboration and interaction. Students must understand how digital technologies can be creatively applied to generate business value.

Course Objectives

Course meets once per week to enable in-depth technology-based exercises. Understand, comprehend, and/or apply/discuss/evaluate: 1. Digital Business Models and Trends a.What is a business model? b.How to analyze, develop, and communicate business models c.Current trends in business models d.Issues in contemporary business models 2.Financing Innovation a.Startup funding approaches, including bootstrapping, venture financing, angels, crowd b.Selling innovations and related services 3.Innovation Approaches a.Agile development methods b."Lean Startup" methodology c.Classic techniques such as waterfall, the V-model, stage gates, etc. 4.Themes in Digital Technology Innovation a.Hands-on experience with new and emerging technologies (to be refreshed as technology evolves; current topics include data streams, Internet of Things, cloud computing, 3D printing, and robotics). b.Deep exploration of new business models associated with new and emerging digital technologies. c.Creatively generate a new business model involving digital technology innovations.
