Social and Statistical Network Analysis


Course Description

Network analysis or network science constitutes one of the fastest-growing quantitative modeling techniques in current research. This hands-on seminar will merge the strength of quantitative models with the powerful mathematical properties of network analysis. The overarching goal is that participants are capable of applying network analysis techniques to their research.

Course Objectives

Students will complete 7 to 8 projects during the semester. For each project, the student will: (1) Draft a succinct paragraph giving an overview of the activity, the method, and its rationale; (2) Display the figures (sociograms or graphic representations of the networks) or outputs from the technique; (3) Explain and show understanding of the code used to obtain the findings, (4) Present the findings, written and/or orally, in a cogent manner. Feedback will be both formative and summative.
