International Internship in Family and Consumer Sciences


Course Description

Supervised work experience in an international setting in Financial Planning, Housing, and Consumer Economics; Foods and Nutrition; Human Development and Family Science; and Textiles, Merchandising, and Interiors.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students will be required to complete a paper with an in-depth review of literature.

Course Objectives

1. Students will build on their existing knowledge base in their major to further develop their skills. 2. Students will apply their knowledge in their major in a professional international setting. 3. Students will evaluate their performance in the workplace as well as their strengths and growth areas in the international setting. 4. Students will share their internship experiences with others in a group meeting. 5. Students will reflect on their experience through structured weekly logs.


Topical Outline

1. Complete and submit weekly structured logs. 2. Complete and submit mid-term and final self-rating evaluation. 3. Prepare paper or project summarizing the experience.
