Course Description
Nutritional needs of children from early childhood through adolescence. Conditions relevant to child and adolescent nutrition, such as food allergies, obesity, and eating disorders, will be discussed. The role of parents, schools, media, and the community in relation to childhood nutrition will also be examined.

Course Objectives
To gain an understanding of growth and development in children and adolescents. To understand energy and micro-nutrient recommendations for healthy children. To describe dietary needs of children with a variety of conditions, including growth failure, food allergies and intolerance, diabetes, and eating disorders. To describe interventions used in community settings to promote optimal nutrition and prevent and manage childhood obesity. To identify the environmental conditions that affect childhood health and nutrition.
