Course Description
Examines the complex identities of objects. Objects have stories
that define memory, identity, and technology. Students will
produce projects that explore the importance of objects in
contemporary life, their layered compositions, and the
implications for artists.

- Through readings, discussion, and the creation of new work, this studio course will challenge students to carefully consider objects, their contingencies, and the implications in art.
- Students will integrate these concepts in assigned projects, research, and critical analysis.
- Students will analyze the progression of ready-mades from The Baroness Elsa Von Freytag Loringhoven to Marcel Duchamp, Haim Steinbach, and current investigations in Thing Theory.
- Students will demonstrate their understanding of the complexity of objects by applying theory and technique into the creation of new works of art.
