Advanced Theories of College Student Development


Course Description

Major theories of college-student psychosocial, intellectual, moral, and ego development; measurement of developmental constructs; and effects of college attendance on each domain. Differences attributable to gender, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, age, and ethnicity.

Student learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to analyze and critique major theorists’ work in psychosocial, intellectual, moral, and ego development.
  • Students will be able to critically evaluate measurement tools related to these theories.
  • Students will be able to critique major theorists’ work and the available instrumentation in how well they explain development in terms of gender, race, sexual orientation, age, and socioeconomic background.
  • Students will be able to analyze the literature about how colleges effect development.
