Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: • Understand that classroom management is situated in a socio- political context by examining the role of culture in teaching and learning; assumptions embedded in school discipline practices; and multiple perspectives on behaviors considered challenging in today’s schools. • Understand how teachers’ and students’ backgrounds and cultures impact their judgments of appropriate classroom behavior. • Describe the meaning and importance of taking responsibility for the learning of all students. • Understand the roots of challenging behavior as well as the importance of positive teacher-student relationships and an engaging curriculum in effective management.
