An investigation of the structural and mechanical properties of biological materials, the design processes impacting those properties, and modeling techniques used to understand how these engineering properties are dependent on the function and the form of the material.

Learning Objectives • understand the engineering properties of the complex composites of biological materials • understand how the assembly of weak constitutes are combined to increase biological material structural integrity • engage modeling techniques to understand changes in engineering properties due to the function of materials • the origins of the mechanical forces generated by and on biological systems
