Designed to apply epidemiological principles and tools to decision- making in a healthcare environment. Builds upon fundamental epidemiologic principles and theory and enables students to develop advanced knowledge in statistics, population health management, and assessment of medical care processes and outcomes in public health services.

Course Objectives
In this course, students will develop the ability to: • Demonstrate the conceptual foundations of population health and their application to health care administration. • Assess the scope, methods, and principles of managerial epidemiology and how health care organizations can utilize them to effect a positive influence on population health. • Evaluate overall population health needs and address the special requirements of underserved or marginalized populations using epidemiological methods. • Predict how epidemiologic data can influence financial and economic decision-making and cost-effectiveness analysis. • Educate coalitions, clinicians, legislators, administrators, public health practitioners, and other persons to utilize epidemiological data, methods, and findings to affect public health policy and practice. • Design health care services for overall populations and targeted sub-populations through the execution of health care management principles. • Search, critically review, and synthesize and interpret the epidemiologic and public health literature to impact public health policy and practice. • Direct the analysis of epidemiologic data using advanced statistical methods. • Evaluate current issues in, and causes of, community health problems, and construct health system interventions using appropriate leadership and management tools. • Assess the propriety and ethical issues that confront epidemiology and public health, and integrate appropriate strategies to resolve those issues.
