Course Objectives
The primary objective of this course is to enhance students’ skills in computer programming and algorithm design in a series of practical exercises emphasizing problem formulation, design, and implementation of selected algorithms used in bioinformatics.
Topical Outline
Students will design and implement algorithms to solve selected tasks in bioinformatics, including: - Pairwise sequence alignment - Simple ORF-finding method - Hierarchical clustering - Supervised motif finding using the PSSM method - Gibbs sampling algorithm for unsupervised motif finding The specific topics and algorithms covered may vary from year to year.
