Educational Leadership for Instructional Improvement and Change


Course Description

Designed to aid individuals in becoming transformational instructional leaders. Leadership is examined through a systems- thinking lens to develop thorough understanding of the need for teacher leaders, the variety of leadership roles teachers can assume, and the impact teacher leadership can have on schools and students.

Course Objectives

Students will acquire skills and knowledge to: A. Become educational leaders that who champion and support instruction and assessment that maximizes student learning and achievement. (GELS 2, PSELS 4 & 10) B. Continually employ innovative and effective leadership strategies to promote the success of all students through the development and operationalization of the shared vision, mission,and goals for the school. (LKES 1, PSELS 1) C. Actively and continually demonstrate expertise in the processes of talent management (selection, induction, support, retention, evaluation, professional development) resulting in highly productive staff who effectively drive student learning and achievement. (LKES 3, PSELS 6) D. Continually work to create highly effective organizational management systems that are focused on student learning and achievement by demonstrating proactive and collaborative decision-making, coordinating efficient operations, and maximizing available resources. (LKES 5, PSELS 9)
