Course Description

The purpose of this course is to develop the conceptual and technical skills to lead organizations as learning communities. The course will focus on job-embedded, standards-based professional learning communities as the vehicle for engaging and meaningful professional development that improves teaching and learning.

Course Objectives

Students will acquire skills and knowledge to: A. Manage and develop staff members’ professional skills and practices in order to drive student learning and achievement. (GELS 3, PSELS 6) B. Guide and support job-embedded, standards-based professional learning that improves teaching and learning and meets the diverse learning needs of every teacher and student (GELS 3c, PSELS 7) C. Create new roles, structures, and norms to support professional collaboration, teacher leadership, and collegial learning (GELS 3d, PSELS 7 & 9) D. Demonstrate the importance of professional development by providing adequate time and resources for all teachers and staff to participate in collaborative professional learning, and provide targeted support and remediation for specific teachers and staff to improve job performance (PSELS 6 & 9)
