Organizational Leadership and Human Resources in School Administration


Course Description

Methods for attracting, inducting, motivating, retaining, and supporting staff and monitoring and supervising certificated and non-certificated faculty and staff to set high standards for the professional participation of all adults in the school community. Students apply systems management and collaborative decision making to effect change.

Course Objectives

Students in this course will acquire skills and knowledge to: A. Build an effective staff through careful personnel recruitment, selection, and assignment of responsibilities, support, evaluation, and retention. (PSELS 7) B. Develop the professional skills of educators, including such activities as coaching, creating supportive conditions, and fostering a professional learning community. (PSELS 6&7) C. Create new roles, structures, and norms to support professional collaboration, teacher leadership, and collegial learning. (PSELS 9) D. Plan to meet the learning needs of diverse learners by strategically deploying educators to achieve an equitable distribution of the most effective teachers across the school and the school district. (PSELS 3) E. Ensure that staffs have the requisite organizational resources, time, structures, and roles to increase student learning and achievement. (PSELS 9) F. Think creatively and strategically about class schedules, student and teacher assignments, the use of technology in the classroom, and the allocation of time and space for staff to exchange ideas and collaborate. (PSELS 9, 10) G. Lead the effective, efficient, equitable, and ethical management of schools and districts. (PSELS 9,3 & 2)
