Reading and Research in TURKIC Literature


Course Description

Study of texts in Turkish, Uzbek, or other Turkic languages, with emphasis upon extensive reading and individual and/or group research projects.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students will be required to do scholarly annotated translations involving research in additional primary and secondary texts, as well as to critique each other's translations and periodically meet with the other graduate students and the professor.

Course Objectives

The main objective of this course is to provide intermediate to advanced students of a Turkic language with the opportunity to do independent research under the supervision of a faculty member. The student usually meets at least once a week with the faculty member to discuss the assigned reading.


Topical Outline

Topics will vary by semester and will include: Classical prose and/or poetry, novel, music, film, news media.
