Student Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course students will be able to measure the attributes of landforms and classify them into separate landform systems.
  • By the end of the course students will be able to discuss and defend the scientific method of analysis for the study of landforms.
  • By the end of the course students will be able to evaluate different interpretations of landform evolution and critically determine the most logical explanations based on available evidence.
  • By the end of the course students will be able to fully appreciate the impact of human actions (e.g. agriculture) on landscapes (e.g. erosion and sedimentation), and appreciate the societal implications of sustainability.
  • By the end of the course students will be able to explain and defend environmental science in the everyday functioning of our planet and its crucial role in policy- and decision-making.
  • By the end of the course students will be able to appraise the human health hazards of natural disasters (floods, landslides, tsunamis, etc.) and the societal implications with respect to zoning and settlement.
  • By the end of the course students will be able to realize that the world has not always been as it is today and that it will change in the future and people must be prepared for change and adaptation to new environmental conditions.
