Directed Study in Qualitative Research


Course Description

Specialized supervision of an individual research project of interest for students in the Online Interdisciplinary Qualitative Studies Certificate program. The project involves collection of qualitative data and analysis interpretation of data to examine a research problem of interest. Findings are presented in the form of a publishable manuscript.

Course Objectives

Students will be able to: • apply a theoretical perspective to engage in social research concerning a problem of interest • design and conduct a study using qualitative methods • generate and collect data to examine research questions of interest • analyze qualitative data sources • provide rationale for how quality criteria have been attended to in the design and conduct of the study • demonstrate reflexivity in the research process • write up findings from the research in the form of a publishable manuscript • identify a potential journal of interest • orally present findings from the research study
