Professional Development in Nutritional Sciences


Course Description

Professional development for careers in nutritional sciences, including culinary science, nutrition, and dietetics. Course will include creating resumes, cover letters, etiquette and dress in the workplace, networking opportunities, speaking with nutrition and industry professionals, presentation and interviewing skills for securing practicums, internships, and paid positions in the field.

Course Objectives

• Identify professional goals • Use information and resources available to prepare high- quality material, including resume, cover letter, business cards, professional profiles, LinkedIn, or similar pages as appropriate • Learn to network to facilitate internship and employment opportunities and exercise networking techniques • Learn about services and information networks available on campus, such as the UGA Career Center and UGA Career Fairs, to assist with internship and employment searches • Learn and practice professional skills and behaviors expected during interviews and in the workplace • Evaluate social media presence and its impact on internship and employment prospects • Prepare to approach interviews in a professional manner, including basic etiquette and proper dress and demeanor • Understand the expectations regarding professional behavior and ethics and how expectations vary by culture and religion
