Course Description
Students will demonstrate pedagogical application of IPA and diction principles suitable for error detection and correction in a choral or solo vocal teaching setting.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate students will be required to provide an additional IPA
transcription of a full art song or choral piece in each
language. They will also be required to coach and rehearse with
the other students in the course.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. achieve a functional knowledge of the International Phonetic Alphabet as it applies to singing in Latin, Italian, English, German, and French. 2. successfully transcribe written and aural examples into IPA for each language. 3. read IPA symbols aloud. 4. apply IPA and diction principles to their singing. 5. lead the class during music learning and performing episodes that stimulate group and solo instruction in school settings.
