Course Description
Principles and practices that are germane to organizing and operating the classroom for learners in prekindergarten through grade five. Students will acquire knowledge of important theoretical approaches in this area as well as practical skills applicable to their work with young children.

Course Objectives
Analyze classroom organization and management. Each student will be expected to describe various management philosophies and theories and to react critically to how they may affect elementary education.
Topical Outline
Philosophical principles on prevention, professional teacher, environmental structure, cooperative group management, discipline models; relationship-listening school of thought (supportive model, communication model, valuing model); confronting-contracting school of thought (social discipline model, reality model, cooperative group management); rules/rewards-punishment school of thought (behavior modification model, positive discipline model, assertiveness model); seriousness of student behavior; social development; team approach; school-wide discipline plans; classroom management; preventive/proactive process; technology infusion.
