Course Description
This course will diversify the translator’s toolkit through the methods, concepts, and tools of the digital humanities. Collaborative projects between the fields of translation, STEM, and intercultural studies are encouraged. Integration of traditional theories and practices of translation into future practices and studies of machine translation. Intensive writing through either literary or technical translation projects.

Course Objectives
To introduce students to contemporary theories and practices of translation assisted by new technologies and to discuss the development of machine translation. To integrate traditional and contemporary views on translation into practical applications for machine translation. To familiarize students with the methods, concepts, and tools available for translation in the digital humanities. To teach students how to complete either literary or technical translation projects through intensive writing.
Topical Outline
The course aims at developing cross-disciplinary perspectives and practices of translation by incorporating the tools and methods of digital humanities and machine translation in the traditional approaches and studies of human translation. In this sense, students will become familiar with the digital humanities, the paradigms of machine translation, such as rule-based, statistical, and example-based translation, the quantum relations principle, and theories and practices of translation. Students are expected to complete multiple intensive writing through either literary or technical translation projects.
