Representation and Identity in Entertainment Media
Course Description
Analysis of the representation of identity (such as
intersections of class, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and gender)
and socio-cultural implications in entertainment media and
popular culture.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students: Additional article-length, scholarly-research paper or comparable assignment deemed by the instructor to be equivalent in nature.

Student Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to understand theories of identity in media entertainment (television, film, games, digital culture) with a primary focus on the ideological underpinnings, power structures, cultural identities, and social implications of these theories in production and representation.
Students will be able to analyze representation as well as media industry forces that influence what and how media are created.
