Course Description
Designed to improve students’ scientific as well as business communication skills and to develop networking and presentation skills. Seminars will be presented by course instructor, invited speakers, and students to provide communication techniques that will truly engage the science community, business professionals, and corporate leaders. Students will learn to interact professionally and communicate their research findings with an audience of diverse science backgrounds.

Course Objectives
Students completing this course should: 1. Learn how to effectively communicate their research findings to an audience of diverse scientific background that may include corporate personnel, extension experts, and members of legislatures 2. Learn how to interact with personnel with no research background 3. Improve their science and extension communication skills and develop networking and presentation skills

1. Poster Design and Presentation (seminar) 2. Research Talk 101 3. Designing a 15-minute Talk for a Scientific Meeting (seminar from two faculty) 4. Preparing a Symposium/Conference/Job Interview Talk from Your Research (1 to 2 faculty) 5. Writing a Good Abstract and Critiquing of Abstracts 6. How to Give an Extension Talk 7. Communicating with Different Audiences 8. Communicating with Members of Legislatures and Public Figures 9. Use of Social Media to Communicate Your Science 10. Responding To and Talking with Media 11. Poultry Science Faculty – Intro Presentations (5 minutes each over 2 weeks) 12. 4 to 5 Open Weeks for Student Presentations on Topics Presented in the Class and Critiques of Student Presentations on Topics Presented in the Seminar Class
