Course Objectives
The purpose of this course in to (1) integrate science curriculum and instruction into classroom practice at both middle and secondary through concurrent course work performed in the science education curriculum and instruction courses, (2) to experience and reflect on the life of a teacher and the profession, (3) to understand and experience the dynamics of student learning in culturally diverse environments, (4) to understand and know the structure and personal involved in making schools comprehensive learning environments.
Topical Outline
Designing and implementing middle and high school science curriculum and instruction in the context of state and national standards. Designing and implementing assessment and evaluation. Interviewing students, and school staff and administration. Maintain reflective journals. Reflective group discussions. Practice teaching in culturally diverse settings. Develop techniques that allow learning for all students. Promote student expression through oral and written experiences.
