Students will critically examine media sources, message development, and audience analysis to understand how consumers of media engage and process information related to agricultural and environmental science communication.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will learn the structure and dynamics of media ecosystems, including the role of stakeholders, regulatory frameworks, and emerging trends shaping media consumption patterns.
  • Through case studies and critical analysis exercises, students will learn how to deconstruct media narratives related to agricultural and environmental topics, identifying underlying agendas, rhetorical strategies, and logical fallacies.
  • Students will develop skills in sourcing and verifying information, distinguishing between credible and unreliable sources, and assessing the validity and reliability of data presented in media content.
  • Students will learn about ethical dilemmas inherent in media production and consumption, including issues of bias, representation, and the responsibilities of media practitioners and consumers.
  • Students will understand the application of logic and reason in analyzing media messages, identifying logical fallacies, and constructing sound arguments based on evidence and critical thinking.
