Overview of the information tools and technology used to manage modern healthcare delivery systems. The focus for instruction is the intersection of technology and human activities to form integrated socio-technical systems. Broad coverage of health informatics, quality and safety science, leadership and change models, and health data analytics.

Course Objectives
1. Explain the structure and funding of the U.S. health system. 2. Explain the interrelated roles of healthcare providers, payers, consumers, and regulators. 3. Describe the concept and steps of a "learning healthcare system." 4. Explain the concept of socio-technical systems, including the role of managers, operators, reliability, accountability, safety, and quality. 5. Outline and define the functions of modern health information systems. 6. Describe the primary components and functions of modern electronic health records. 7. Explain the role of taxonomy and concept classification schemes used in health data storage, transmission, and semantic harmonization. 8. Describe the principles of privacy and security. 9. Explain and critique common leadership change models. 10. Analyze and explain the principles of teamwork and team science. 11. Critique the principles of population health improvement. 12. Describe predictive modeling and risk stratification. 13. Analyze health data sets and summarize findings.
