Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will review the work of classic sociological theorists (e.g., Marx, Weber, and Durkheim) and contemporary theorists through the use of original texts.
  • Students will review the derivation and history of many concepts, discourses, and dilemmas that are still current in social scientific debate.
  • Students will analyze social problems and assimilate sociological research.
  • Students will be asked to demonstrate their mastery of the course content in written work that is appropriate for an academic context.
  • Students will be asked to demonstrate their mastery of the course content in speech that is appropriate for an academic context.
