Course Objectives
This course provides an overview of classic sociological theorists (e.g., Marx, Weber, and Durkheim) and contemporary theorists through the use of original texts. It is designed to show the derivation and history of many concepts, discourses, and dilemmas that are still current in social scientific debate. Such knowledge will facilitate your ability to analyze social problems and assimilate sociological research. Students will be asked to demonstrate their mastery of the course content in written work that is appropriate for an academic context. Students will be asked to demonstrate their mastery of the course content in speech that is appropriate for an academic context.
