Theoretical approaches to the state; the formation and legitimation of nations; collective action, social movements, and revolutions. Focus will be on issues of class, gender, and race.

To introduce students to the social dimensions of political life. Students will be expected to understand the role that factors such as class, gender, and race play in the political process.
