Course Description

An experiential-based course that offers an introduction to fundamental wellness principles and practices, with an aim to increase health and well-being and reduce injury through embodied practices both in the studio and the classroom.

Course Objectives

1. Identify the stressors and barriers to success in terms of wellness for students in arts practices. 2. Identify the major areas of wellness and gain experience with using various self-care tools and strategies for improving wellness in selected areas. 3. Increase students’ ability to recognize areas of wellness that may be out of balance. 4. Apply specific wellness practices relevant to individual student needs and contexts. 5. Build peer understanding and empathy around social, cultural, and economic differences as seen through the lens of wellness. 6. Create and practice personalized wellness plans, including determining goals, self-reflection, and identifying wellness resources. 7. Through a collaboration with the Fontaine Center (UHC), increase student awareness of and familiarization with relevant on-campus resources.
