Course Description

Introduces yoga as a mindful movement practice used to increase the mind-body connection. In this fundamental course, yoga postures, or asanas, will explore alignment and breath to improve balance, strength, and flexibility.

Course Objectives

1. Increase awareness of body, mind, and breath 2. Develop an understanding of yoga etiquette and terminology 3. Bring compassion, kindness, and appreciation to oneself, body, and to others 4. Experience the benefits of the physical practice; rigor, relaxation, and ease 5. Apply proper anatomical alignment to the yoga asanas

• Introduction to the principles of yoga • Practicing the progression of yoga asanas, including standing poses, seated poses, twists, and backbends • Working towards clarity of attention, intention, awareness, and mindfulness • Experiencing and understanding the benefits of the practice
