French for International Affairs


Course Description

Students will apply their French to the professional situations in international affairs by engaging in authentic tasks that promote accountability, delegation, and division of work. In addition to familiarizing students with international affairs in francophone contexts, the course will cultivate skills in cross-cultural communication and single-issue advocacy.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course, students will have learned to: 1) Communicate effectively with a variety of francophone stakeholders; 2) Organize and interpret French-language documentation in the field of international affairs; 3) Appraise negotiation strategies appropriate to different cultural contexts; and 4) Advocate policy positions.

Weeks 1-5: Professional communications for French in international affairs Weeks 6-10: Negotiation and conflict-resolution in francophone contexts Weeks 11-15: Informing about and advocating policies relative to francophone countries.
