Course Objectives

1. In-depth understanding of how and why societies designate behaviors as deviant and respond differently to deviant behaviors 2. Critically evaluate measures of deviance 3. Critically evaluate explanations of deviance


Topical Outline

Conceptions of Deviance Explanations of Deviance Empirical research on individual and group forms of deviance including mental disorders, suicide, violence, deviant sports, deviant religions, deviant sexual practices, and mental disorders.
