Course Description
Explores the foundations and practical applications of instructional coaching within the PreK-12 school context. Frameworks for instructional coaching; instructional coaching as support for professional learning; and the dynamics in which coaching unfold as well as key skill areas coaches need to succeed are examined.

Course Objectives
By the conclusion of this course, it is expected that participants will be able to: • Articulate the similarities and differences and underlying theories about and between coaching models and their frameworks. • Identify the tenets of professional job-embedded learning and the relationship to the work that coaches do to support teachers. • Identify the dynamics of culture and climate and the impact on coaching. • Lead individual and group coaching sessions within a school setting. • Self-assess dispositions needed to engage in peer coaching, collaborative planning, and lesson reconstruction. • Discuss political tensions associated with the work of coaching and how these tensions can impact the coaching process. • Engage in coaching conversations with peers. • Apply adult learning theories while working with teachers across the career continuum. • Identify ways to reduce isolation, promote inquiry, and increase individual and organizational capacity through coaching. • Discuss coaching and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
