Course Description
During the Global Governance Summer School, students will engage with guest speakers and visit sites of historic and contemporary significance. This course will allow students to deepen their understanding of important issues in global governance and the context in which international legal institutions function. Students will critically reflect on these experiences through reflective papers and group projects.
Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate law students will be required to demonstrate mastery of the material through an applied project not required of the Juris Doctor students. Graduate law students are primarily international lawyers seeking expertise in the American legal system. This expertise is gained through exposure to Juris Doctor courses in which they will be required to perform more extensive reading and research.

Course Objectives
This course is designed to deepen a student’s understanding of issues and institutions of global governance by interaction with guest speakers as well as visits to sites of historic and contemporary significance, such as international tribunals and organizations. Each year, the guest speakers and site visits will be selected to complement the Supervising Faculty Member’s area of academic expertise and the content covered in this course’s corequisite, Global Governance Summer School: Special Topics. By the end of this course, students will be able to: • Identify several international legal institutions and their respective roles in global governance; • Identify one or more contemporary challenges at the transnational or global level and the legal actors or institutions working to address that challenge; and • Critically reflect on various dimensions of the challenge and applicable legal framework, including perspectives of stakeholders.
