Course Description

Examination of selected topics in global governance. Introduces actors and legal institutions that are involved in addressing issues of transnational or global significance and critically evaluates the role of various actors, legal regimes, and institutions in responding to those issues. The particular focus of the Global Governance Summer School will vary from year to year based on the Supervising Faculty Member’s area of expertise.

Additional Requirements for Graduate Students:
Graduate law students will be required to demonstrate mastery of the material through an applied project not required of the Juris Doctor students. Graduate law students are primarily international lawyers seeking expertise in the American legal system. This expertise is gained through exposure to Juris Doctor courses in which they will be required to perform more extensive reading and research.

• By the end of this course, students will be able to identify a set of actors and legal institutions relevant to the special topic.
• By the end of this course, students will be able to understand how the relevant actors and institutions use legal doctrines and processes to try to set standards, encourage cooperation, facilitate compliance, or resolve disputes.
• By the end of this course, students will be able to understand how the actors and institutions relevant to the special topic fit within a larger set of transnational regimes and institutions.
